Double Set for reunion dinner

To celebrate the start of the working year and to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Dog, Sunway Putra’s chef Chew Keng Chai and his team have designed Reunion Dinner set menus. 
Traditional-style yee sang with salmon

The two 8-course menus come with complimentary Salmon Yee Sang for diners to lou hei (toss up) good fortune and happiness.

At a recent sampling preview of the menus, media and bloggers had a boisterous time, tossing for bigger bonuses, pay increments and promotions. May all have their wishes come true!

Chew has gone back to basics with the yee sang and I find the traditional recipe so refreshing after all the funky versions in the past few years.

 Braised Crabmeat, Dried Scallop & Seaweed Soup
Then it’s Braised Crabmeat & Seaweed with dried scallop soup. The second menu offers Hot & Sour Sichuan Seafood Soup. Oh, the thickened Crabmeat & Seaweed Soup is a slurpilicious bowl filled with shitake mushroom, crabmeat, crabstick and dried scallops. The aroma is intense, particularly from the scallops and seaweed. Don’t be too liberal with the black vinegar. A few drops are all that’s needed to give it oomph.

Roasted Crispy Chicken follows. The chicken is juicy and served with a dip made with coarsely chopped cucumber and light plum sauce. Unusual but tasty.

Steamed Sea Grouper, Hong Kong style 
The Steamed Sea Grouper is done Hong Kong style. Superior soya sauce is poured over the fish, served whole of course, and coriander and scallions sprinkled over to add to the flavour.

 Tiger Prawns to add that "xiu har har" joy to your dinner
Tiger Prawns with salted egg yolk is our choice. The huge crustaceans are slit down the back so one can remove the shells easily without messing around with fingers. Crunchy and fresh, the sweetness of the prawns is given a boost by the salted egg yolk.

 Stirfried Nai Bak with Mushroom Dumplings in Superior Stock
Stirfried Nai Bak (milk cabbage) with superior stock is served together with mushroom dumplings. The shitake mushrooms are stuffed with fish paste. Overstuffed, actually, making the dumplings look like golf balls.

 Glutinous Rice with Yam & Chicken is steamed in individual parcels
We are pretty stuffed ourselves but in case some still have tummy space, there’s Glutinous Rice with chicken and yam to take care of that. Steamed in individual lotus leaf bowls, the grains of rice are softly tender. I love it with freshly cut chilli padi dipped in soya sauce.

For dessert, we get refreshing Chilled Honeydew Sago With Diced Rock Melon and Baked Spiral Puff with lotus paste.  

The reunion dinner will be served at the Coffee House on Level 9 of the hotel. But for those who prefer privacy, function rooms – for families, friends or company dinners – will be made available upon request during reservations.
