PULLMAN KL CITY CENTRE HOTEL & RESIDENCES

Lunar joy delivered

January 29, 2021

China House in Pullman Hotel, KLCC
I doubt that numbers will go down and the Covid-19 MCO will be lifted for Chinese New Year, so it’s time to put Plan B into action and that is getting the festive food delivered.

As the family usually heads for Red Chinese Cuisine in Pullman KL City Centre, I check to see if it does delivery. Yay, it does. In fact, it has 3 auspicious menus for tables of 10 or 5, yee sang and poon choi.

Afternoon Tea takeaway for two persons

There’s also afternoon tea takeaway (RM128/2pax) with 3 tiers of nibbles including CNY mini cupcakes, kumquat chocolate pralines, egg tarts, pineapple tarts, nian gao, scones, prawn dumplings and bao.

Premium Five Treasure Yee Sang is topped with lobster, abalone, scallop, salmon and jellyfish

The 9-course auspicious menus are Spring & Happiness Set (RM1,888/RM999 for 10/5 pax), Heavenly Treasure Set (RM2,388/RM1,199) and Stellar Prosperity Set (RM2,588/RM1,299). All prices stated here are nett and include yee sang, nian gao and a bottle of Spanish Vina Albali cabernet sauvignon.

Festive delivery from Pullman in a festive bag

Some hot dishes including braised tofu, tiger prawn, lap mei yam rice, cumin lamb rack and steamed cod fillet with cordycep flowers

I managed to sample dishes from the different menus. The double-boiled clam meat, choy kon (dried vegetable), black chicken and conpoy from the Heavenly Treasure Set is slurpilicious to the last drop. The aroma of the choy kon is enticing while the other ingredients provide the essence of the soup.

Also from the same set, traditional steamed cod fish fillet is topped with gravy cooked with mushroom and dried cordycep flowers. So yummy!

I much prefer this to the stirfried tiger prawn with marmite sauce from the Spring & Happiness Set, probably because I am never keen on getting my fingers dirty in peeling prawn.

From the Stellar Prosperity Set, Roasted Australian lamb rack with cumin crust is My Best Friend’s favourite. A little reminiscent of Indian cuisine, the cumin elevates the tender racks of meat to gourmand levels. Lightly cooked onion petals complete the dish.

The Spring & Happiness Set has braised tofu with pumpkin sauce and bok choy, with shitake and shimeji mushrooms. The silky soft tofu is a good foil for the thickened pumpkin sauce while mushroom adds more aroma.

Individual Golden Prosperity Set at RM68 nett per person

7-course Golden Fortune Set is for a minimum 6 persons

There are also the very affordable 5-course Golden Prosperity set at RM68 per person and the 7-course Golden Fortune set (RM68/pax with minimum order 6 pax for Golden Fortune Set).

Red's Signature Superfood Healthy Yee Sang

Or if you just want yee sang, there are four combinations, including the Red Signature Superfood Healthy Yee Sang (RM98/158 for ½/full portion). It has a mix that includes quinoa, baby spinach, goji berries, cherry tomato, dragonfruit, mandarin oranges, carrot, purple cabbage, radish, walnut, almond, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds.

The luxurious Premium 5 Treasure Yee Sang (RM228/338 for ½/full portion) is topped with lobster, abalone, scallop, salmon and jellyfish.

Fresh Fruit & Garden Greens (RM98/158 for ½/full portion) and Prosperity Snow Pear (RM78/138 for ½/full portion) are vegetarian yee sang varieties though you can add toppings of scallop lips, jellyfish, salmon, crispy salmon skin, soft shell crab, abalone and even sea urchin.

Customers can also choose one of these dressings: Traditional, Yoghurt Plum and Pineapple Plum. The yoghurt plum is my absolute favourite.

Poon choi  from Red
Love poon choi? The dish was created because a village didn’t have enough crockery and had to serve the Emperor food in a basin. Today, it has gained notoriety as a lux festive offering. Red Chinese Cuisine offers poon choi in 2 sizes (RM388/4 pax; RM888/10pax) that has Chinese cabbage and white radish topped with roasted duck, chicken, tiger prawn, dried scallop, mushroom, dried oyster, money bag, fish maw, sea cucumber, abalone and broccoli.

Do check out the a la carte menu if you just want to add glamour to your home cooking. Or perhaps you don’t want to slave too long in the kitchen. Whole Stuffed Roasted Crispy Duck (RM158) and Stewed Village Chicken with Pacific Clam Dip (RM138) may be best left to professionals. Or try the Steamed Jumbo Tiger Prawn with Golden Crispy Garlic on Glass Noodles (RM45/100g) and Braised Yee-Fu Noodles with Alaskan King Crab Meat & Chives (RM128/portion).

All festive menus available till February 26, 2021. Delivery is free for orders above RM200 within 10km radius. For orders under RM200, delivery fee is dependent on location.
