Healthy start to the week
20 October 2019
It had to be a magical Sunday because
my friends and I found convenient road parking spots in space challenged
Bangsar and we came in four cars. OK, we didn’t park next to each other but
still… Or perhaps it was because we had arranged to meet at 10.30am and folks usually
prefer to sleep in on Sundays.
Anyway, we counted our blessings as we
trotted up the stairs to Fittie Sense, a restaurant with the tagline “Fussy
About Food” and I was having a good feel about this.
The hot kitchen only caters to a la
carte orders after 11am but in the meantime, there’s the All-Day Breakfast
Menu, with two pages filled with colourful pictures of dishes.
These include hearty stuff like the
All-Day Breakfast (RM34) with chicken/lamb kofte, 2 kampung eggs, tomato,
roasted pumpkin, mushroom and wheat-free toast, Dragon Bowl (RM18) comprising
coconut chia seed pudding with dragonfruit kefir smoothie and house granola and
if you’re really not hungry, just peckish, have an Energy Ball (RM5), little
loaded bombs made with nuts and seed, banana, dates, coconut oil and a touch of
honey.
If nothing tickles your fancy,
customers can also craft their own breakfast by ticking off a list of
ingredients and the chefs will put it all together.
Craft your own healthy plate |
I am wondering if I should have Lamb
Pita (RM19) with Lebanese slaw and house garlic aioli or the Signature Zoodles
Aglio Olio (RM18) a vegan offering of Zucchini Noodles, Tomato, Mushroom,
Chilli, Capers & Lemon.
As we’re taking so long to make up our minds, I snuck a peek at my watch and notice it’s already 11am, so we ask for the a la carte menu too.

Keto Salmon Omelette |
The two kids who tagged along with
their mums share an interest in Keto Salmon Omelette (RM34) cooked with 4
kampung eggs topped with Norwegian salmon, broccoli and asparagus. The salmon
is cut in big chunky 4 cm squares and there’s plenty of it too, interlaced with
sprigs of asparagus and broccoli florets and a sprinkle of coriander on top.
FS Bolognese Pasta |
Someone orders FS Bolognese Pasta
(RM24), with semolina pasta topped with lean beef topside Bolognese sauce and
grated cheese.
Grilled Citrus Seabass with lots of greens, almonds and lemon-orange dressing |
I finally decide on Grilled Citrus
Seabass (RM46) with broccoli, kailan, almonds & a tangy lemon-orange
dressing. The locally-caught fish is panseared with a bit of ginger and fennel
and topped with roasted almond flakes that add a nutty crunch to the soft moist
fish. The broccoli and kalian are lightly steamed to maintain a satisfying
crunch and goes well with dressing of lemon juice and EVOO.
Cajun Chicken Chop with Quinoa Pilaf |
Cajun Chicken Chop with Quinoa Pilaf
(RM28) is a colourful plate of grilled chicken thigh on a bed of millet-quinoa
pilaf surrounded by chopped lettuce and cherry tomato. Avocado mash and coriander on top completes
the pretty picture. This is a satisfying dish to fill hungry tummies.
Lamb Kofte & Baba Ganoush |
Lamb Kofte & Baba Ganoush (RM30)
is an aromatic, spicy ground lamb kebab with meat from grassfed lamb. Served
with sidekicks of marinaded beetroot, cauliflower tabbouleh and mashed, roasted
eggplant.
Actually, the menu is quite extensive and pictures of each dish
prove helpful. Opened in April 2017, Fittie Sense also caters to vegetarians
and those on special diets including celiac, high protein
Paleo or low-carb-high-fat Keto. There are regular and vegetarian Daily
Specials menu and on Sunday, there’s a Stevia Baked Cheesecake with Tahitian
Vanilla (RM19) for Keto diets.
Orange, Polenta & Poppy Seed Cake and Carrot Cake |
For dessert we share a slice of Orange, Polenta & Poppy Seed Cake (RM16) made with Almond Meal, Polenta, Molasses, Olive Oil, Eggs and Poppy Seed, and Carrot Cake (RM16), baked with beetroot, orange, almond meal, coconut flour, unrefined brown sugar, eggs, cinnamon and ginger.
